Overview

Gnowangerup farmThe purpose of Gnowangerup Training Centre is to provide regional training opportunities, primarily satisfying demand in the 15 - 19 year old cohort through augmentation of current training curriculum and to ‘value-add’ to existing training programs. Additionally, the Centre’s role is to provide training outside of this cohort to address skills shortage areas, programs for local and regional community or private groups, and investigation of other regional needs as a catalyst to the design of “in-house” training programs. Key stakeholders in this definition include schools, agricultural colleges, TAFE, private training providers, industry groups, research bodies, and ‘employment development’ agencies.

Potential usage of the Centre in addition to current practices is anticipated to grow ensuring Gnowangerup remains a viable and sustainable regional use facility. The potential to link further with local and more remote school and college curriculum is significant; positive feedback from current and potential users is such that growth is expected, particularly as the Centre’s reputation and increased VET practices grow within the region. The imminent further raising of the school leaving age supports additional development. Initial success of the Centre in the first seven months of operation, has been very encouraging with up until June 30, over 1000 student contact days covering all age groups in the population occurred at the Centre.
